Summertime has reached its peak and we are trying to soak up as much sunshine as possible. From pool parties, to mini weekend getaways, I don’t ever leave the house without summer hats to complete my outfit. Not only do I want to make sure I’m protecting my skin from UV exposure but also make sure I’m wearing the next statement piece when it comes to summer hats. Although I’m a classic floppy hat kind of gal, this summer has been all about the boater straw hat for me. It’s a touch of edgy yet girly and I love that! Since its shape has a touch of masculinity, in this look I paired it with a lace fit and flare dress for a feminine touch. The added bow detail in the back presents a cute flirty feature completing the perfect outfit for a daytime brunch or for a warm summer evening. And keep in mind, hat accessorizing doesn’t have to end in fall, many of these pieces can be carried over into the colder weathers and continue to keep your outfits cool.
This summer, we’ve seen the widest range of refreshing silhouettes, so I wanted to share with you my favorite styles for summer hats. Whether it’s a fedora, round boater or a floppy style, I’ve got you covered with the hottest summer headwear trends!
Floppy Hats: When I think of floppy hats, I always associate them with gorgeous, feminine looks. It’s a versatile piece that is sporty enough for the street but also stylish enough for the beach. This piece is definitely 70’s inspired and reflects a bohemian touch. It’s one of my favorite go-to hats all year round because it can be nautical and oversized for summer but suede and wool for colder seasons.
Boater Straw Hats: Boater hats have evolved and it’s a new yet classic piece to add to your wardrobe this season. It started trending on the Spring ’15 runways and now can be seen everywhere. Although it has a slight masculine touch with its structured frame, feminine touches such as a bow can transform it into a great schoolgirl style.
Caps: Yes, caps are definitely back in and the next noteworthy trend. But designers are getting more innovative with their caps, gone are the traditional baseball caps and in are these funky, cool pieces that are versatile for any season. Go for an unconventional cap with a mixture of textures and designs for a more unique look.
Wide Brim Sun Hats: When I think of a wide brim sun hat, I automatically want to be teleported to the Hamptons! It’s totally feminine and elegant. If you are looking for options to protect you from those UV rays, while looking utterly fabulous, a wide brim sun hat is the way to go!
Panama and Bucket Hats: Panama hats are everywhere this summer and they are coming in a variety of colors and designs. It’s an effortless piece that can add color and funk to your classic summer wardrobe. Pair it with a tank and distressed boyfriend jeans for a street chic look or wear it with a midi skirt for a dressier touch.
