Let’s be real – most days we’ve got so many things on our plate, that the last thing we think about is actually eating something healthy off a plate (sigh). Having balanced and nutritious meals often require a lot of effort so I decided to simplify things. In order to take better care of myself, I’m going to make myself one smoothie a day, whether for breakfast or lunch or in between meals.
To keep it interesting, I wanted to come up with different smoothie recipes for every day of the week (ok and I was also cheesy and decided to name the smoothies with the same letter as the day of the week so that I would remember which smoothie I am supposed to have that day). But cheesy or not, this is one way to ensure I get a variety of fruit, veggie, nut and dairy intake during the week and don’t get bored of the same thing. So check out my seven smoothie recipes below starting and let me know which one is your fave!
Monday Melon Smoothie
This smoothie tastes as good as it looks. The melon and pear go really well together and are balanced out with the creamy yogurt and tart lime juice. Take a sip, I know you’ll be hooked.
What You’ll Need to Make this Melon Smoothie:
- 2 cups melon, chopped
- 1/2 green pear, chopped
- 1/2 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt
- 1 tsp fresh lime juice
- 1/2 tsp honey
- 1/2 cup crushed ice
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Put all the above ingredients in a blender (I use the Nutribullet) and blend until smooth (make sure there are no chunky pieces in there) and enjoy!
Tuesday Tropical Smoothie
It’s Tuesday and that means another smoothie is in the works. Today’s fix is the tropical smoothie. Loaded with tropical fruits and such, it tastes like Hawaii in a glass. I include macadamia nuts in this recipe because they are a great source of fiber and blend really well with these fruit flavors. This smoothie has a good serving of fruits and veggies. And, if you wanna live a little, add a splash of rum at the end – hey, at least it’ll be a nutritious cocktail hehe.
What You’ll Need to Make this Tropical Smoothie:
- 1 cup pineapple, chopped
- 1 cup mango, chopped
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 of a medium carrot, chopped
- Roughly 10 roasted macadamia nuts, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup crushed ice
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Put all of the above in a blender and blend until smooth. You can add more ice if you like your smoothies icier. Enjoy!
Wednesday Watermelon Smoothie
Happy #humpday! Today I made a yummy watermelon smoothie which was light and refreshing and perfect for the 85+ degree weather we have been getting in LA. This watermelon smoothie is a real thirst quencher and requires only 3 ingredients. And, if you’re really trying to cool down you can always put it in the freezer for an hour to make it more cool and refreshing.
What You’ll Need to Make this Watermelon Smoothie Recipe:
- 2 cups watermelon, chopped
- 1 medium apple, chopped
- 1/2 cup strawberries, chopped
- 1/4 cup crushed ice
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Put all of the ingredients above in a blender and blend until smooth. Yum!
Thursday Tangerine Smoothie
What You’ll Need to Make this Tangerine Smoothie:
- 1 large tangerine, skin peeled, membranes removed and then chopped (if you don’t peel the membrane, your smoothie will have an unpleasant stringy texture)
- 1 mango, chopped
- 1/4 cup carrots, chopped
- 1 peach, chopped
- 1/4 cup water or orange juice
- 1/4 cup crushed ice
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Add everything to a blender and blend away!
Friday Fig Smoothie Recipe
This fig smoothie is a creamy, sweet one – a perfect treat instead of dessert.
What You’ll Need to Make this Fig Smoothie Recipe:
- 5 figs, roughly chopped (preferably fresh ones but since figs are in season only during the summer/fall you can use dried figs instead)
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup greek yogurt
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup crushed iced
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Blend, until smooth. Do not blend to a thin or watery consistency because this is a rich, creamy smoothie.
Saturday Spinach Smoothie
I love my Saturday spinach smoothie recipe because it’s packed with iron and it’s the only green smoothie I truly drink with pleasure. The banana balances out the leafy taste of the spinach and kale and the nuts make it nice and creamy.
What You’ll Need to Make this Spinach Smoothie Recipe:
- 1 cup packed baby spinach leaves
- 1/2 cup packed kale leaves
- 1 banana, chopped
- 1 cup coconut milk (or substitute any other milk)
- 1 tablespoon chopped almonds or cashews
- 1/2 cup crushed iced
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Blend in a NutriBullet (or another blender) until smooth. Enjoy, because it’s dee-licious!
Sunday Strawberry Smoothie Fix
My smoothie recipe series is coming to an end but I hope you’ll continue having these throughout the week. It’s really been making me feel so much better and healthier. This strawberry smoothie recipe is a hit among my friends and family and although it tastes great, it has hidden healthy ingredients you can’t taste. Hope you like it! And, remember all of these smoothie recipes roughly yield two 10 ounce smoothie servings.
What You’ll Need to Make this Strawberry Smoothie:
- 2 cups strawberries, chopped
- 1 cup raspberries
- 1/2 cup milk (you can do whole, skim, non-fat, or soy but try to avoid almond or coconut milk because it will change the flavor of the smoothie)
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup crushed iced
Step 1 and Final Step:
- Add everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
