How to Make DIY Ballerina Party Pops

Last month my little, not-so-little girl turned 3 years old. She recently started ballet and is obsessed with all things ballerina, so that was the theme of her 3rd birthday party soirée. Even though I love party planning and making all the cute itty-bitty details myself, I was too busy and too pregnant and enlisted the help of a planner. Still, I wanted to make at least ONE thing for the party from scratch, myself. I decided on these chocolate-covered marshmallow ballerina party pops because they were tutu cute. I made them in pink and gold because those were our theme colors but you can make them in any color you’d like. Though they take a bit of time to make, these party pops are easy to assemble and are so cute that they double as your dessert table decor.

What You’ll Need to Make These Ballerina Party Pops:

• One 10 oz bag of large marshmallows
• One 16 oz bag of mini marshmallows
• One 12 oz bag of candy melts (these are like chocolates you can melt)
• 35 mini cupcake baking cups
• 35 4-inch lollipop sticks
• One bottle of sugar sprinkles

Note: With one 10 oz bag of large marshmallows, you can make about 35 ballerina party pops but will have extra chocolate, sprinkles and mini marshmallows leftover. So you can double the number of party pops you make by buying two 10 oz bags of large marshmallows.

1. Make the Ballerina Base

Take your lollipop stick and insert one mini marshmallow on it, leaving about 1 inch from the top. Then, poke a small hole in the center of the mini cupcake cup and insert it from the top upside-down, resting it on top of the marshmallow as shown above. The mini marshmallow will help keep the cupcake cup from sliding down. Now you’ve created what looks like a ballet skirt on your lollipop stick.

2. Make the Marshmallow

Melt your chocolate according to the package instructions (I usually use a double broiler because I don’t have a microwave, but it’s fastest with a microwave). Then take each large marshmallow and dip it in the melted chocolate, using a small knife to spread the chocolate around it so it’s not too clumpy. Immediately, dip the chocolate covered marshmallow in the sprinkles and set it on a drying rack to cool off and stick together.

3. Assemble

To assemble the ballerina party pops take your stick with the skirt and simply slide the large marshmallow you’ve prepared on top. My favorite way to present these is to create a little styrofoam stand because the lollipop sticks will stand up securely and look neat. You can decorate the stand with a ribbon band or paint it to prettify it.
