When it’s chilly outside, you and I both know all you really want to do is bundle up and forget about getting gussied up – who cares if you look like the Marshmallow Man, as long as you’re warm! But that sort of mentality is just going to make the winter feel all that much longer. Style and warmth aren’t mutually exclusive and one of my favorite tricks is long sleeved winter dresses, which are perfect layered over tights and booties. Not only are they flattering on everyone, they keep you warm without looking like you gave up on life. Here are a few of my faves:
The printed skater dress at Adela Mei is fun and flirty with a swingy skirt, but with a nice thick material to ward off the chill. The silhouette is feminine, but in black with modern detailing, it’s not overly sweet or sexy. Dress it up, dress it down, you’ll be reaching for it more times than you realize.
For a more sophisticated and sleek aesthetic, this Jacquard sweater dress from LOFT has all your dress needs checked off: a classic crew neck, soft fabric, and a not-so-tight stomach fit that’ll hide the food baby you know you’ll have after those big dinner dates. Top it off with tights and booties to jazz it up and set the tone.
Long sleeved dresses keep you covered up, but they needn’t be boring. This contrasting bodycon dress from ASOS is definitely a conversation starter and says “I’m the life of the party.” With a figure-flattering floral texture and unique detailing, you can’t really go wrong. Complete the look with plain studs and your favorite heels or booties.
This is not your average winter dress. Crushed velvet is a flattering texture that can be paired with leathers and patterned fabrics. This one from Missguided has decided it doesn’t want to be like the rest and in a rich burgundy, it stands out from the crowd. I love dresses that make me look like I actually worked out this year, and the illusion draping on this one does the trick. Versatility is always the name of the game, and this dress will take you from work to dinner dates in a flash.
You may have thought you knew fun but, unless you’ve met this winter dress before, you clearly didn’t. This fancy little frock from Revolve Clothing is the epitome of a good time: daring, flirty, mysterious, and could probably drink you under the table. Sheer panels show off skin without actually showing anything, while embroidery adds visual detail and interest. You know you want to be that girl.
This winter dress from ShopBop is classic in the front, party in the back. Actually, let me clarify, this dress is having a massive dancing on tables kind of party in the back. I love a good sleek and minimal dress, but this one has perfect amount of oomph to make it special. Showing off a toned back is one of my favorite ways to show some skin, and with the mesh back it’s even more subtle – which is a good thing. Trust me when I say, heads will turn when you walk past.
