White + Gold Home Remodel: Before & After Photos

Let’s talk about our home remodel. This is the second home we’ve gutted and remodeled from ground up and I hope to not have to go through another one for a while. In theory, it looks fun but there are a lot of moving parts and knowing what you want and staying organized is key.

Our last home had a grey, white, silver and gold color scheme with grey floors, marble accents, silver faucets and door handles. Although I loved the design at our old place, this home came with a built-in black and white striped awning by the pool. I used the awning colors as my foundation to create a farmhouse chic vibe by incorporating black door handles, faucets and lighting fixtures while still keeping grey and gold accents wherever I could. The color ratio you’ll be seeing in the photos are roughly 5% black, 5% marble, 15% grey, 20% gold, 55% white.

Living Room Before and After

Left: The floors were a washed out brown wood with and brick fire place. Right: The paint colors we went with for the walls are Swiss Coffee and the ceiling and moulding color is Whisper White.

Regarding the color scheme, there are two black accents here- the curtain rod and fireplace cover. The rest of the space is white, gold with a marble flair. I know our sofa looks dangerously white, but it’s a microfiber material that easily zips off and is washing machine safe.

Dining Room Before and After

Left: The home used to have antique floral wall paper, distressed hardwood floors, and one single door that went into a narrow sunroom. Right: We covered the wall paper, changed the flooring and my favorite part, added a 3-panel folding door that leads to the pool.

About our dining room table, it’s an off-white wood that seats up to 10 people. Since being in quarantine, we removed the two leaf attachments and stored the extra chairs in our garage, but I love that it brings a cozy cabin-feel to a modern space.

The dining room decor took the longest time to complete. I went back and forth about adding artwork on the wall to the right. After looking for months, I wasn’t in love with anything, nor did I want to commit to a temporary art piece. For that reason, I went with a grid photo galley with gold frames and black and white prints. That way, it’s not a focal point but a muted accent wall with photos that can be switched out at any time. I have the process documented on my instagram page, in the home highlights section.

Kitchen Before and After

Left: It used to have checkered floors, a breakfast table area and ceiling fan. Right: we added countertop seating, barstools, a wine rack, corner cabinets, marble floors, subway tiles, and an exposed hood and stove.

I spend most of my time in the kitchen, whether it’s cooking, eating, entertaining or working at the bar on my laptop. We went back and forth about adding the bar because it took up a lot of space but now seeing how much we use it, I’m glad we trusted our gut.
