My Favorite Looks from New York Fashion Week

Fashion Week is one of the most important events for everyone in the fashion industry. This year was my first time attending New York Fashion Week and I know there are different opinions about it – some love it and some hate it but I wanted to find out for myself. The trip flew by quickly and I absolutely loved it! Fashion Week is a tremendous production that involves many months of preparing by designers, publicists, and brand teams. The entire designer’s collection is showcased in less than one hour and I truly respect and admire the work of all designers. The lace and feminine silhouettes from Marissa Webb kicked off my trip but having to be dressed and styled for Elie Tahari was definitely my favorite experience from New York Fashion Week. Of course, there were many other beautiful presentations in between and each day was filled with new meetings, shows, and events.

As New York Fashion Week started, the streets flooded with influencers in beautiful bags, unique ensembles, and amazing shoes. At the corner of each block were a group of photographers trying to capture all details and inspiring looks. I knew when I arrived that I wanted to create a different look and personality each day I was there. Showcasing different silhouettes and looks always reflects a fresh new perspective and shows diversity. Three of my favorite styles I put together for New York Fashion Week were: bohemian, edgy sophistication, and the preppy girl next door.

Look 1

When referring to boho, I immediately think of fringe, boots and bold accessories. It’s all about embracing the romantic, countrified aesthetic in drapey and feminine layers. When I went to my Elie Tahari fitting, I knew that I wanted to style a look around boho chic. I opted for a bold forest green suede skirt with fringe as the statement piece and styled the remainder of my look around the skirt. I incorporated the bow front blouse trend as a part of my top but kept it bohemian with a big wool hat and gold accessories. I loved this look because its versatility allowed me to go to coffee in the morning, run to the Elie Tahari show, as well as pop into Zara for some shopping.

Look 2

My second favorite outfit was a little out of the ordinary. A button-down shirt is nice and all, but throw a corset into the mix and you have now upgraded your outfit. Although it seems strange, it’s totally adorable and you can layer your favorite bustier over any tee or shirt. This day consisted of several denim presentations, so I completed my whole look with destroyed boyfriend jeans. These acid washed beauties can go from day to night. Add a statement neck piece to complete your look and you’re a total show stopper.

Look 3

Overalls are probably the most versatile transition item and I now love dungaree dresses. This silhouette is making a comeback, and it’s not going anywhere. It’s cute, comfortable and incredibly stylish. When I wore this outfit, I completely thought I was in a private school on the Upper East Side. I tried to nail two trends in one with this look. A bow front blouse is big this season, and pairing it with corduroy dungarees is a great way to make the look more feminine.

From all the events to shows and to connecting with industry specialists, I felt like I was in a dream. New York Fashion Week, I will be coming for you next year!

Lillian Babaian

My name is Lillian and I am the lipstick loving, big curly hair obsessed blogger behind StudsandSapphires.com. It started way back in my youngster years when I would play with my mom's hair products, wear her clothes, and act out fashion and beauty commercials. Working in the fashion industry as a designer for major brands inspired me to use that knowledge and to kickstart my style tutorials. When I am not blogging, you can find me in the jewelry section at the mall or looking for the next best chips and guac restaurant. Arm and ring parties are my favorite kind of parties, Shihtzus are my favorite kind of dogs and I would take Chanel over anything, anyday!
