BFFs: The Pencil Skirt And Leather Belt

Pencil skirts for work or formal occasions can often be the “safe” choice, but you can also turn it into something fabulous simply by adding a belt. It’s the best way to take it from ”blah” to “aha!” In this edition, I’m wearing two pencil skirts both with a skinny belt, but you can use any type of belt that you feel suits your body and outfit best.

Go from Business Casual to Cocktail Hour

I love this look because it’s versatile – it’s proper enough for the office but cool enough to go out for drinks after. I dressed up a plain white pencil skirt with a black skinny waist belt with a gold buckle and accents. To make it business casual I wore the skirt with a white button up. You can spice it up by wearing a white button up that has lace, or patterns. Note my large, gold watch. If it looks like a large, heavy men’s chronograph, that’s because it is!  Gold watches are “in-season” so to speak and I love this one from Diesel the brand. It makes a bold statement at the office during the day and is an equally cool accessory during a night out. I also wore chunky cuff bracelets to accompany the oversized watch.  I kept the shoes simple with some strappy sandals and added a plain white clutch – you can leave this in the car and add it to your outfit after the office. And, it’s always a good idea to add red lips to your look once you’re off duty from work!

Stay Comfortable but Cute

I love my heather gray knit pencil skirt because it’s soft and comfortable. But I felt it needed something to give it more excitement. First I added a beige leather belt. Helpful tip: This slim belt is long enough to be doubled for a more dramatic look. I usually like to add the belt and then everything else. Next, I added an understated, but fabulous long-sleeved top from ASOS in yellow. Unfortunately this top is an old one and no longer available, but any long sleeved light yellow top will do. This adds a little bit of color since both the belt and pencil skirt are neutral. I wore the same sandals here as in the first look. I feel like this look is conservative (wear it to brunch) but stylish enough to wear out (wear it to dinner and drinks.)

My name is Lillian and I am the lipstick loving, big curly hair obsessed blogger behind StudsandSapphires.com. It started way back in my youngster years when I would play with my mom's hair products, wear her clothes, and act out fashion and beauty commercials. Working in the fashion industry as a designer for major brands inspired me to use that knowledge and to kickstart my style tutorials. When I am not blogging, you can find me in the jewelry section at the mall or looking for the next best chips and guac restaurant. Arm and ring parties are my favorite kind of parties, Shihtzus are my favorite kind of dogs and I would take Chanel over anything, anyday!
