5 Valentine’s Day Ideas That Will Take 5 Minutes To Prep

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and while gifts are always sweet, I always like to do a little something creative and fun for my love. Here, I wanted to share with you some Valentine’s Day ideas which involve a few “love hearts” and about 5 minutes of your time to make/prep. Happy loving!

My 5 Valentine’s Day Ideas:

Breakfast of Hearts

What you’ll need:

  • 1 egg
  • ¼ tablespoon butter/olive oil
  • Cooking spray
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 heart-shaped cookie cutter, 1-1.2 inch size works best (check out this one from Macy’s – it has several sizes)
  • 1 round egg mold – can be any size but needs to be bigger than the heart-shaped cookie cutter (this one from Sears is a perfect size)

Steps:

So this requires a couple of steps but is still super easy and quick to do. Spray the round egg mold and heart-shaped cookie cutter with cooking spray. Melt ¼ tablespoons of butter or olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Once the butter has melted, place the sprayed round egg mold in the melted butter/oil then place the sprayed heart-shaped cookie cutter inside the round mold. Separate your egg yolk and pour it into the heart mold while you pour your egg white in the round mold. Season with salt and pepper as desired. Cook for about 5 minutes or more depending how well-done you like your eggs. And voilà…you have a perfectly shaped heart!

Kick it up a notch:

Because my hubby loves Sriracha, I always finish off his savory breakfasts with a Sriracha love message, which is perfect and easy to scribble for Valentine’s Day. You can write the message on the plate for some extra smiles.

 A Sweet Message

What you’ll need:

  • Several cupcakes – the number of cupcakes depends on the number of letters you will need to spell your message
  • Cupcake picks – make sure to get picks that have a label so you can write a message on them (I got this from Amazon)
  • Alphabet stickers or a red sharpie

Steps:

This is my lazy version of Valentine’s Day cupcakes (don’t judge!). All this requires is buying a bunch of cupcakes (first spell out your message to know how many cupcakes you will need to buy – the rule is one cupcake per letter). If you’ve got the time, then by all means bake your own. Take your cupcake picks and add your alphabet stickers to spell out your message, or you can write it out using a red sharpie. Add the picks individually to each cupcake to create your message. A few message ideas that are short and sweet – “Be Mine” “Be My Valentine?” “I Love You” “Marry Me” but feel free to get creative and personal.

 Let’s Toast To Us

What you’ll need:

  • 1 piece of toast bread – you can use white, wheat, whole grain, or any other your heart desires
  • Unsalted butter
  • A favorite red jam
  • A heart-shaped cookie cutter – use whatever size you’d like, depending on how big you want to make your toasts

Steps:

I don’t think it can get any easier than this, so ready, set, now spread the love. Use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut your piece of toast down to two heart shapes (most toasts will produce two hearts). Then spread some butter and your (his/her) favorite red jam all over and you’ve got two sweet hearts ready to share. This may seem too easy, but add a personalized note on the side such as: “A toast to us because …” and take your toast to a whole new love-el. 🙂

Heartcubes

What you’ll need:

  • 1 pomegranate, peeled and seeds separated
  • A heart-shaped ice mold tray (like this one from Amazon)
  • Water

Steps:

This is one of those Valentine’s Day ideas you can use all year long and the hardest part is peeling the pomegranate! Fill the heart-shaped ice mold tray with water. Throw in a few pomegranate seeds in each heart mold. You can use more pomegranate seeds for a rich red color or less if you want to create a design, just be sure to spread them out evenly so the red color spreads around. Then put your ice tray in the freezer and freeze as you would with regular ice cubes. Use these when serving water, soft drinks or cocktails. Take it a step further and serve the drinks in fancy glasses or my favorite: mason jars. There is a cool one (from Nordstrom) with a mini chalkboard you can use to write a love message and it’s a steal at $10 for a set of 4.

Heart-sicles

What you’ll need:

  • 1 watermelon
  • A heart-shaped cookie cutter – you can use any size
  • Popsicle or lollipop sticks

Steps:

And last, but not least, here is a quick, healthy and sure to please Valentine’s Day idea for the munchkins in your life – because I am a mom after all. Cut up a watermelon and then use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to create heart-shaped watermelons. You can cut them as small or as big as you’d like.  Carefully insert a popsicle or lollipop stick into the bottom of each and put it in the freezer anywhere from 2 hours to a few days. Your kids will love joining the Valentine’s Day festivities!
